Sarah Latham, former editor of the Rappahannock News, and long time local resident is back home after knee replacement surgery. She has very much eqjqyed all the cards, phone calls and visits from friends and neighbors. We wish her a very speedy recovery!

lived there with his mother (until she passed away) and with Babe, his beloved 20001b. + bulL Now Marshall wasn’t always known for his calm demeanor, but his love for his animals, particularly Babe, is beyond question. His cows ami bulls have never known a mean word from him. They are coaxed around that mountain ever so gently and spend each fall grazing under the apple trees. Babe was so gentle that Ray and I had no qualms about taking our little grandchildren to pet him. Now Babe was infamous for taking his harem for a walk on the mountain. Many times he and the girls ate the Hoben’s flowers. One day Amber Dodson called to tell me that Marshall’s cows, with Babe in the lead; were coming down the lane. I ran down my road and had to ffamrr them up the lane so they would not wander onto U.S. 211. One winter morning Babe let his girls slip away to our yard. When Ray and I herded them back into Marshall’s field, Babe just stood at the gate, perhaps wondering what took them so knag to come home. A 20001b. + hull can be intimidating, but the kindness with which he was treated made him lovable as...well...a Babe. Babe’s massive gentle face will be missed, but he is one more member of the Dodson family whose souls and spirits continue to nourish us all on the mountain.
