Mrs. Nora Jenkins of Slate Mills, though she Is 104 years old, had a lot of "firsts*' two weeks ago. August 22 was the first time she had been to a doctor, the first time she had been In a hospital, the first time she had been In an ambulance.
Mrs. Jenkins fell at her home and was taken by Rappahannock Rescue Squad to Culpeper Memorial Hospital for x-rays. No bones were broken but her knee was dislocated. Until she had the unfortunate fall, Mrs. Jenkins had been keeping her own house, canning and'preservlng and making hooked rugs for sale, too. She has never worn glasses and can thread a needle with the naked eye; she has never been to a dentist and has most of her teeth, except a few she pulled herself. Her mind is clear and memory very good, as she talks about the Civil War. She dealt a blow to modern science when she stated that she had smoked a pipe since her early teens, never had a cough or any lung congestion.
