Besides their efforts to help farmers get feed grain at reduced prices. Powers said that the ASC State Committee is pressing vigorously to get railroads to reduce freight rates on the transportation of hay to drought-plagued areas of Virginia. In late July the Interstate Commerce Commission approved rate reductions on hay shipments, a prerequisite to rate cuts by railroads.
