The latest available figures show that the veteran population of the United States has increased almost five times since 1930, from 4.7 millions to 22.3 million in 1962. In 1930 one of every 17 persons, age 18 or over, was a war veteran. Now about one of every 5 adults has served in the Armed Forces. More than 9 out of every 10 living veterans in 1930 had served in World War I, but now just slightly over one out of 10 veterans is of W.W.I. Almost 44% of the total U.S. Population are veterans, membersof veterans' families or dependent survivors, a total of about 81 million persons. 447,000 is the estimated veteran population of Virginia.
