Today there are 31 National Parks, at least 80 National Monuments, many National Historic Sites, National Seashores, National Military Parks, National Capital Parks, and other areas with a total of over 190 areas administered by the National Park Service. • Over 82,300,000 people visited the National Park Service areas in 1962. Thiswas an 8.6% increase over 1961. In 1962 over 2,049,000 people visited Shenandoah National Park. Travel to Shenandoah for the 1963 calendar year shows over 10.1% increase over the same date last year.
