some lunch was fixed. Then some boys went fishing while others took a survival course. The course taught us how to live in the wilderness if we got lost. Among things tnr eluded were names of edible plants, building of our equipment, and how to cook with handmade material. As soon as the course was over, we prepared supper. Supper being finished, we turned in for bed in preparation for the next days Journey to Beaubien camp
August 7, 1963 — Today we got up and prepared for what was supposed to be the longest and toughest hike of our trip. We at first planned to stay at Beaubien but then decided to go on to Black Mountain camp if we weren’t too tired. After eating breakfast, we headed for the camp at around 9:15 a.m. The road to Beaubien was 6 miles long and the trail to Black Mt. was 2 miles Iona.
