Now the job takes more time than ever, Foster said. And the Supervisors make many long distance calls and travel many miles on behalf of their constituents. Since the raise wouldn’t apply to himself, Foster said he’d like to make a motion for the Supervisors pay to start at $600.
H.B. Wood, the other vocal “fiscal conservative” on the Board, didn’t agree with his retiring colleague. The way things are, inflation and taxes and such, Wood said he didn’t think the Supervisors could ask for a raise because “the people aren’t able to pay it.”
“WEILL, if you-all don’t think you’re worth it, I don’t suppose you can ask the people to pay for it,” George Davis grinned.
“Oh, we’re worth every bit of that,” H.B. Wood assured Davis. “But it’s not possible to ask the people to pay us what we’re worth,” he said.
The Supervisors thanked Foster for his suggestion and told him it would be considered during discussions of the budget.□
