Hunting accidents
James N. Kerrick, safety officer for the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries, reports that, during the period July 1, through November 26, twenty hunting accidents have been reported. Included in that number were nine fatalities. As has been the case during the past years, the predominate number of the fatalities were related to the use of shotguns, said Kerrick.
Three of the fatalities were the result of the hunter stumbling or falling and two persons died when their firearms accidentally discharged as they were either removing the gun from or replacing it in their vehicles.
Kerrick urged all sportsmen to exercise extreme caution while hunting.
