Pasture conditions in Virginia on December 1 were 99 percent of normal. A few farmers have begun some supplemental feeding as the seasonably colder weather developed.
Cold storage holdings of beef on November 1, 1975, was six percent greater than the previous month but 23 percent below the stocks of a year earlier.
Total U.S. cattle slaughter for October was nearly 4 million head, 11 percent above last year and 27 percent over October 1973. The January-October kill was 12 percent above the same period of a year ago.
The Virginia cattle slaughter for October totaled 28,500 head, 47 percent above the previous year. The January-October kill totaled 192,000 head compared with 112,400 for the same period in 1974, an increase of 71 percent.
