ACCORDING to R. Kenneth Hudgins, executive director of the Old Dominion Eye Bank, a Lions sponsored non-profit organization, 48 individuals have been given corneal transplants since July 1 of this year, using eye tissue solicited by members of Virginia Lions Clubs. Hudgins said the need for eye tissue is often urgent and the number of requests received at the Eye Bank from Virginia eye surgeons increases each day.
Eye tissue which has been donated on death by a person with poor eye sight, Hudgins stated, can be just as valuable and effective in sight-restoring grafts as tissue from the eyes of a person with perfect vision. Age, color, orphysical condition makes no difference, he said.
Hudgins emphasized that anyone wishing to pledge their eyes, on death, to the Old Dominion Eye Bank for the purpose of restoring sight to someone now blind can do so by getting an eye donor pledge card from any member of a local Lions Club or by con
