Another problem, Buntin continued, is that on court days the only way the witnesses can be separated from what’s going on in the court room is by staying downstairs in the commonwealth’s attorney’s or sheriff’s office. Buntin noted there is “confidential stuff’’ in those offices and other arrangements ought to be made.
John Walker Jenkins agreed that everything Buntin requested is needed. But he stressed that the condition of the jail and sheriff’s department reflects “no neglect on my part; I did the best with what I had to do with. You-all know how much money we had to operate on.”
