BLEF hires a Fauquier
attorney on powerline
THE RAPPAHANNOCK LEAGUE for Environmental Protection has retained attorney John Mears III to represent the interests of RLEP and its members before the Fauquier Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission. In announcing Mears’s appointment as attorney for RLEP, president Phil Irwin expressed “dissatisfaction with the indecisive way the Fauquier Board and Planning Commission have handled the proposed Vepco transmission line route.” Mears has earned law degrees from Cambridge University in England and George Washington University and practices law at 7 Hotel Street in Warrenton, Irwin said.
The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection is appealing the decision of the State Corporation Commission to allow Vepco to go forward with plans to build a 500 kv powerline from a substation at Morrisville to Mt. Storm, W. Va. The line would cross Fauquier and Rappahannock counties. The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection has appealed the SCC decision to the Virginia Supreme Court and is presenting evidence and testimony against the proposed powerline route in public hearings before the Nuclear Regulatory Agency licensing board.□
