After the fire was reported, “we made a few phone calls and immediately had all the help we needed,” said Jenkins. "We really appreciate the people who assisted us. Without their help, the fire would have been much larger,” he added.
The same volunteers from the Castleton, Washington and Flint Hill Departments plus men from Sperryville and Amissville rushed to Madison County on Saturday to assist in fighting five fires there.
Rappahannock Forester Lyt Wood reported that a blaze on Deal Mountain, a few miles south of Etlan, burned 50 acres of timber before it was controlled. It spread from a house fire that resulted in one fatality.
Later the same day, a string of four fires broke out along the Rapidan River, three on Virginia Game Commission property and one on land inside the Shenandoah National Park boundaries.

Choral Concert
The Rappahannock Chorus will present a concert on Saturday, May 13, at 8 p.m. in the old school house in Washington. Tickets are now being sold by Chorus members. Adult tickets are $2 with children under 12 admitted free.
