White and loblolly pines are used for pulp wood, poles and saw wood. Reforestation will produce a return on the landowner’s initial investment but the money doesn’t come rolling in overnight. Wood reported that it takes between 15 and 20 years before a stand of seedlings is ready for its first thinning. At that time, the smallest, least vigorous trees are removed for pulp wood and poles. Approximately 35 to 40 years after the seedlings are planted, the stand of pines will reach saw lumber size but still won’t be completely mature for another ten to 15 vears.
