sulphur came along. “They were about as poison as table salt,” he said. In 1905, DDT was developed by the Swiss and used as an insecticide in France. According to Reger, DDT saved the lives of thousands of American soldiers in Italy by killing lice that carried disease germs.
"DDT has never in my mind been shown to be a dangerous material. Dedicated people took it by the spoonful daily with no harm but to no avail,” Reger reported. The trumpet sounded, he added, and lawyers got hold of DDT and banned its use.
“Repealing the law of gravity is similar to banning some of these beneficial chemicals,” he charged. Before the discovery of DDT, 16 million people were dying from malaria yearly. DDT brought the number of deaths down to just several thousand. When it was banned, malaria mortality immediately climbed back up to six or seven million, according to Reger, and public outcry returned ihe chemical to partial use.
