in a previous letter dated Uecember 11, Capito noted that all wires from the pumps to the polluted spring had been,,^ cut, leaving the uncontaminated well as the subdivision’s water source. He added that the well had been increased in depth another 60 feet to provide more water and that a new pressure switch would be installed.

Rappahannock Lakes residents may now drink from their faucets safely—but no thanks to the Health Department’s failure to push the legal exercise of its powers.

At the December Board meeting, LeGarde also asked the Supervisors for support in approaching the Rappahannock Planning Commission for a county water supply ordinance. Adoption of a county law would be a wise step and could give the Health Department more authority to require compliance with drinking water regulations but, at the same time, the Health Department should use the powers that it already holds instead of passing the buck on protection.
