ot his action was calculated to stifle any opposition from the American people or Congress. In this one act alone he betrayed his oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States. With the stroke of his pen, Mr. Carter has written off 17 million free people and has most certainly doomed them to eventual enslavement and death. These are the same people who fought beside us in our war with Japan and tied up an estimated 3 or 4 million Japanese troops in China that might have been used in the Pacific against our men. Though forced to flee to the sanctuary of Formosa, they nevertheless built one of the most prosperous and free nations of the world and they remain staunchly anti-Communists. Trade .between Taiwan and the United States amounts to about IVi billion dollars annually and it is not subsidized by the US taxpayers' dollars as is the 1 billion dollar trade with Red China. Yet Mr. Carter betrayed these freedom loving people and says that the United States will consider them part of Communist China. In the name of heaven, why?!
