Charging student athletes a minimal fee to defray transportation costs to sporting events is illegal, according to legal advice given the Rappahannock School board by its attorney.
Superintendent William Bloomer reported to the county supervisors at last Thursday’s meeting that the school board had taken action to charge a 50 cent maximum transportation fee when it became evident that the appropriate line item in the current budget was not sufficient to cover increased costs of gas and oil.
