According to Luke, the track has drainage problems. “If it’s not graded and seeded properly, we’re going to see a maintenance item in the budget each year (after the track is turned over to the school),” he maintained. He suggested that county engineer Fanning Baumgardner conduct a grade check—“not eyeballing it but getting a measurement."
Nothing that he had contributed to the fund raising effort, Luke called PAL’s efforts to build a track “an excellent idea. But before we get ourselves in trouble, we should have a professional look at it," he concluded.
Bloomer reported that PAL wanted to finish work on the drainage and put gravel on the track before they turned it over to the school.
As the superintendent got up to leave with school board members Robert Eastfiam, Beverly Massie and Charles Eldred, Luke had one final word: “Let us know if you need any more money."
