Luke informed Bloomer that the county’s accountant Walter Cox had raised questions regarding “the pseudo-taxing authority” wielded by the school board in charging extra for transportation.
Cox is also concerned, said Luke, over collection procedures. He noted that all money would have to be first deposited in the school activity fund, then transferred to the school board’s account and finally deposited with the county treasurer.
“What about fuel oil?” asked supervisor Butch Eastham, referring to anticipated cost increases there.
Bloomer answered that the schools primarily used coal which is expected to increase only $2 and $3 per ton.
