During the first gas shortage four or five years ago, the road was rebuilt, Askew recalled. He added, however, that reduced gas tax revenues forced the department to postpone surface treatment. “We have not gone back to pick that up...It’s not in the six-year plan but if the community wants it (paved), I think we have an obligation to do it.”
