Bywaters reported that' the majority of county roads were closed by fallen trees on Wednesday. “Private citizens opened them up. If they hadn't, I don’t know when we would have gotten them all open.”
According to Bywaters, most roads were cleared at least enough for one lane of traffic by Friday night. Damage was about equal countywide,' he said, noting that problems were slightly more severe in' the mountain y sections, particularly the hollows around Washington and Sperryville.
“ I don’t know how long it will take us to clear the brush off the roadsides,” Bywaters added. ‘‘We ' have two chippers and two crews doing that now.”
