“We increase next year’s budget to cover it,” Eldred replied.
“We will do as much as possible to expand last year’s program (with funds already included in the 1979-80 budget),” Bloomer added. “Then we’ll come back to the board before budget time” with proposals on a structured program for next year, he said.
Bloomer reported'that, for the first time- this year, junior and senior English students at RCHS are being separated into more academic college bound and non-college bound classes. If' this approach brings results,' he said, it may be extended all the way down to eighth and ninth grade.
Bloomer added that an honors group may also be selected for science classes.
“When the state puts'the major emphasis on special education,' that’s where our concentration' has been,” Bloomer concluded in explaining' the lack of attention paid in' the past to gifted and talented students.
