The administration’s plans for expanding the gifted and talented program at Rappahannock elementary center around hiring one additional teacher for next year, according to a report from assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel presented at last week’s school board meeting.
Using state guidelines for identification, McDaniel said there are 62 gifted and 28 talented elementary students and 38 gifted and 69 talented students at RCHS.
He noted that the state reimburses $40 per student identified up to three percent of the county’s school population.
Last year, Rappahannock received $1,800 in state funds for its gifted and talented program. The bulk of the money, McDaniel said, went toward running the instrumental music program at both schools and purchase of computer equipment for gifted math and science
