Deborah Milburn, LD teacher at the elementary school, currently sees 13 students on a resource basis where' the pupils attend regular classes the majority of'the day and receive special help from her for several hours per week.
McDaniel noted'that state guidelines allow Milburn to serve 16 students. He said, however,' that enrollment in her class can’t be expanded to'the fuH load because she currently handles six students on a resource basis wherr they should be in a self-contained classroom. These six require additional hours of Milburn’s time, he said.
In addition, Milburn uses a room' that was formerly" the school dentist’s office. Size limitations, said McDaniel, allow her to work with only three pupils at a time.
Gentleman’s Agreement
According to McDaniel, schools using Piedmont share a “gentleman’s agreement” to limit enrollment in the regional school to students in sixth grade and' higher. Rappahannock sends five students who are in fourth and fifth grade, he reported.
