Madeline Ann Metcalf of Annandale lost control of the 1975 Ford she was driving Saturday night, struck a guardrail and then hit a culvert in the median of Route 211 west of Nfassies Comer, according to Trooper H. A. Newlin. The officer cited her for driving under the influence and reckless driving.
Susan Jenkins of Washington, operating a 1979 Ford, struck and killed a deer February 2 at 1 a.m. on Route 211 west of Sperryville.
Newlin also investigated this collision. Jenkins sustained minor injuries, he said.
A truck driver escaped serious injury last Thursday when he jumped from his vehicle as it coursed down the mountain just east of Panorama on Route 211. According to Trooper C. A. Moore, Robert Settle of Herndon was operating the 74 Kenilworth dump truck when the brakes failed.
Moore said the driver attempted to pull off the highway and stop the runaway truck, and failing to halt it. Settle jumped out. The truck continued about a hundred feet further down an embankment and was totaled.
Settle was treated at Page Memorial Hospital in Luray and released.
