On Saturday Rappahannock's Varsity basketball players won their seventh game, their highest tally since back in 1969 when they also won seven, with a 66-45 victory over the Clarke County Eagles.
The Panthers began slowly and didn't get on the scoreboard until after three minutes ticked away. Gary Leake made the opening basket and a minute later Jimmy Tomko put the Panthers ahead. 8-6, where they remained for the rest of the game.
Clarke pulled within one with half a minute to go in the opening period but Leake made the last shot, widening the margin, 11-8.
The Eagles began to slip in the second quarter and were in foul trouble early. Rappahannock held Clarke scoreless for two minutes then Gary Leake converted on a Greg Bright rebound to put Rappahannock ahead 158.
