According to figures provided by the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation, Rappahannock's highway dollars will shrink 58 per cent by 1983-84 if the General Assembly does not approve additional sources of revenue, specifically a four cents per gallon increase in the state gasoline tax.
This year, Rappahannock received $432,000 in gas tax revenue from the state tor construction and improvement of the county’s secondary road system.
Based on the latest revenue projection from current sources, the highway department estimates this funding will drop to $276,011 in 1980-81; $217,283 in 198182; $227,903 in 1982-83 and $185,592 in 1983-84.
