President Carter has signed legislation extending the Farmers Home Administration Economic Emergency program until September 30, 1981. The program was due to expire on May 15 this year.
E. A. Ragland, Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) State Director said, “President Carter’s action will enable us to continue the Economic Emergency (EE) program, not only through the remainder of this year but through the next fiscal year as well. Although the EE program was not due to end until May 15, we were just about out of funds when the President signed the bill on March 30."
The EE program provides direct or guaranteed loans to farmers and ranchers who suffer economic hardship because of area or national economic conditions beyond their control. FmHA provided $35,731,420 in Economic Emergency assistance to Virginia farmers last year.
