Besides enjoying his service as a council member, Jenkins explained that he is seeking re-election because his duties as care taker of the town’s water system have provided him with the necessary background to explain the workings of the system to the council and to answer questions on the water system from the other members.
H. Taylor Updike, retired from the construction business, hasn't missed a meeting during his most recent four year stint on the council. A native of Washington, Updike was also a councilman for two terms in the 1950s. “The only reason I'm going for it is the money,” Updike joked when asked why he’s running this year. (Council members are paid S5 per monthly meeting.) In a more serious vein, he said he wanted to continue serving because he’s interested in helping Washington’s elderly residents. Updike added that he also wants to work towards preserving the character and atmosphere of the town.
