Door prizes donated by county merchants added to the success of the evening. Mrs. Crescenti reported that Mary Updike won a glass bowl donated by Jenkins Auction House, George Shanklin won S10 in groceries from the Washington Cash Store, ;JEthel Bailey won $10 in groceries from Hackley’s grocery in Amissville, Jerry Dwyer won $10 in groceries from the Sperryville Corner Store and Stant Weaver’s daughter Shirley won $10 in gas from Baldwin’s Grocery in Washington while Stant himself won an azalea plant donated by Mrs. Crescenti. B&B Service Center near Washington provided bags of ice for the banquet.
"A special thank you for helping goes to our van driver, Jimmie Painter, who collected all the door prizes. In addition to assisting with the banquet, he recently drove our group to see the bluegrass concert at Fauquier High School pdt on by the Country Gentlemen. Early’s Carpet generously provided the tickets for my senior Citizens to attend that outing,” said Mrs. Crescenti.
“For the parent-child banquet, we had volunteers help us serve the meals and set up tables and chairs,” Mrs. Crescenti reported. In addition, L. J. Davis and his all-girl choir from the Amissville Methodist Church—with a few guys thrown in for spice—provided entertainment. Marie Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bailey of Washington, also sang for the banquet audience.
“The place was so packed that someone called and asked Sheriff Buntin to check what was going on,” Mrs. Crescenti said. “Tj)ey thought that Hampton Inn was holding a dance.” “Fun was all we had in mind and I think the banquet was enjoyed by all who attended,” Mrs. Crescenti concluded.
