evening. In the sixth inning, with two runners on and the score 14*15, he stroked a double. Wayne Atkins, coming from second, tied the score, and the determined Mike Fletcher took off from first with no intentions of stopping until he was home. He scored the winning run, giving the Panthers their first lead which they never relinquished.
Page tried to come back
and almost succeeded but Panthers catcher Tobey Schreiner picked off a Page base runner going to third. In tagging the runner out third baseman Eric Bear sacrificed his foot to metal spikes to stop the scoring threat.
Mike Leake left the mound in the second inning for first base but came back as pitcher in the third. After his return, he gave up only one run.
The Panthers’ strong hitting, fast base running, good coaching, and determination brought them back to move their record to 5-1.

Training
Navy Seaman Recruit Julia L. Holland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Holland of Sperryville, has completed recruit training at the Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla.
During the eight-week training cycle, trainees studied general military subjects designed to prepare them for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy’s 85 basic occupational fields.
Included in their studies were seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in Physical Education and Hygiene.
A 1978 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, and a 1979 graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College, Middletown, she joined the Navy in February of this year.
