Charlie is the strange, young tom turkey belonging to Betty Jane and Richard T. Hitt of Amissville that set on eggs and tried to become a mother. Failing this he attempted to take the chicks away from a mother hen, but was again unsuccessful. He is a family pet now, not an endangered Thanksgiving species, and roams with the peafowls, peacocks and pigeons living at Hitt’s “funny farm” as some of their friends call the place.
