A widow, widower, or adult disabled in childhood need not have worked under social security since these benefits are paid on the record of a spouse or parent who worked under social security.
Payments to a worker or to a disabled widow or widower cannot begin until the 6th full month of disability. Payments to an adult disabled in childhood can begin when the parent received retirement or disability benefits or dies. It makes no difference how old the adult is at that time just as lohg as he or she became disabled before 22.
