$5,356 Grant

The Virginia Transportation Safety Board recently approved the allocation of $5,356 to Rappahannock County for continuation of the local Alcohol Safely Action Program (ASAP). The funds are part of a total of $564,339 divided between six state agencies, seven cities and 12 counties.

With ASAP, a driver convicted of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol is given the opportunity to attend an educational program. Upon successful completion of the course, the court mav reduce trunk driving charges against, he individual to a lesser offense of reckless driving. Under this approach, the subject is able to retain his or her operator’s license but must remain on probation for a year.
