In addition, the percentage of students mastering all objectives of the basic learning skills exceeds SOQ goals with % per cent for first grade, 94 per cent for second. 97 per cent for third, 93 per cent for fourth, 85 per cent for fifth and 94 per cent for sixth.
Among 11th and 8th graders. SOQ goals called for 55 per cent to score at or above the fiftieth percentile in reading and language arts on standardized tests by June, 1984. To date, only 29 per cent of 8th graders and 43 per cent of 11th graders have achieved that goal.
In math, the SOQ objective was to have 85 per cent of elementary students mastering basic learning skills. To date, percentages have exceeded this goal with 96 per cent of first graders mastering math skills, % per cent for second grade, 91 per cent for third, 95 per cent for fourth, 77 per cent for fifth and 91 per cent for sixth. Also in math, objectives called for 55 per cent of 8th and 11th graders to score at or above the fiftieth percentile on standardized math tests by 1984. To date, only 28 per cent of 8th graders and 42 per cent of 11th graders have met this objective.
SOQ objectives call for every high school graduate and 50 per cent of drop-outsto have a job entry skill. The six-year plan update did not give statistics on graduates.
