1908 kept painstakingly by the weather observer in a quaint old fashioned script, pictures and clippings from the famous all-woman Washington town council, and a facsimile of George Washington himself with his surveyor’s tools.
From the Town Ordinances approved on March 15, 1894 we learn that, in addition to their concern about pig pens, the town council prohibited horses from standing upon any sidewalk, punishable by a fine of 50 cents; that it was unlawful to block the sidewalk by engaging in a game of ball, bandy or marbles; and that prisoners being transported must wear a ball and chain furnished from town funds, one to each prisoner.
