CULPEPER-Performance records were set at the Culpeper bull test station when the Virginia Beef Cattle Improvement Association (BCIA) held its annual sale of 80 senior bulls. The group represented the top twothirds of 118 bulls tested.
According to A. L. Eller Jr.. Virginia Tech Extension beef specialist, the Culpeper Bulls set performance records with 3.2 pounds per day gain on a 140-day feed test and an average 365-day weight of 1,053 pounds.
The average price per bull was $1,799. The total sale grossed $145,650. Eight Simmentals averaged $1,912, three Charolais averaged $2,167, two Shorthorn averaged $1,850, one Limousin brought $1,300, 45 Angus averaged $1,814, and 21 Polled Herefords averaged $1,701.
Top prices for the day were received for Angus bulls. Two-thirds interest and full possession of Lot 29, an October son of Byergos Black Revolution 36, sold at $4,100 to Sandy Springs Farm, Stevensburg. Consigned by P. T. Mclntire and Sons. White Post, the bull had an average daily gain of 3.32, ratio 104, yearling weight of 1,194, ratio 114.
