More than a generation of experience along these lines should have convinced us of that. Again, the President’s focusing attention on places where solutions for difficult problems do not lie will prove unsuccessful and particularly dangerous for our nation and the whole world.
Many people who voted to put our present "representatives” in power did so in ignorance and under misperceptions. At present, we can’t change that, but we can let elected officials know now we see their plans for us are misconceived. For when the present administration's policies have worked their harm upon society, have proved farcical, who will those in power seek to blame for their own failures? I haven't any doubt about that.
Each of us views his or her own past and present with different eyes. But in a representative society, whose freedoms and institutions we cherish, each of us has a responsibility to seek the truth and to let public decision makers know what we believe we understand. Citizens must not commit the crime of silence when the fate of our nation and the world is at stake.
