The tannery would reclaim an already available resource, using hides from fish skinned on factory ships or in port with a very precise machine that leaves no flesh attached. Kuncewicz said. The skins would be first frozen in a blast freezer to a solid block of ice and then transported on refrigerated trucks to a freezer at the Sperryville plant for storage until processing. The entire operation produces no strong odors and does not use any dangerous substances, according to Kuncewitz.
