The largest percentage increase in budget categories comes in capital outlay but without the inclusion of any funds for expansion at the high school. In addition to musical instruments ($3,290), fire extinguishers for the cafeteria ($1,000), 'special education equipment ($1,000) and emergency lights for the elementary school ($4,125), capital outlay includes $12,789 for computer terminal, printer and telephone line tied into Piedmont Technical School. Bloomer said that the requested computer service hooked up to the central office is expected to be used for scheduling at RCHS, payrolls and warrants and budget accounting and record keeping. In addition, he said that the computer may possibly be used for attendance records which would replace the necessity of teachers having to keep dasS registers.
Copies of the proposed school budget are available at the school board’s central office in Sperryville for public inspection. The board has scheduled another special meeting on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the elementary school library for public response to the superintendent’s proposed 1981-82 budget. The budget is set for adoption by the school board at a final special session on March 24.
