Fred Frye of Sperryville asked if equipment in the tannery would be vented to the outside.

Kuncewicz said there would be no outside vents since the process created no smoke or residue in the air.

Noting that Sperryville has a very high water table, Frye asked if there was danger of stored liquids seeping into area wells.

Fiber glass storage tanks will be kept in the tannery building itself, a point that waters in the 1978 Sperryville flood, said to be the worst in 100 years, didn’t reach, according to Kuncewicz.
