Luke replied that if the amendment is adopted, Dodson and anybody else who wants a garage can apply for a special use permit.
Latham described the situation as “closing the bam door after the horse is stolen.” He maintained that the county needs some mechanism to check on building permits, “whether a structure is commercial or private.” Lack of follow through to ensure that permit specifications are adhered to is “getting us into a lot of trouble.” the Jackson representative said.
Agreeing to table Settle’s rezoning application, the supervisors sent the proposed ordinance amendment back to the planning commission for public hearing.
