On April 17th at 10 a.m., the gun will go off to start Rappahannock's Fourth Annual Fodderstack Gassic 10 Kilometer Race.
Open to all runners, the race affords both the professional and the “fun” runner a chance to try the historic stagecoach route from Flint Hill to Washington through the old Moore Orchard and across the scenic Fodderstack Mountain to the first town surveyed by George Washington in 1749.
The race is sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreation Association, a non-profit organization promoting recreational facilities for local youths. There are T-shirts for the first 300 runners who finish and trophies for the first three finalists in each of the 13 age categories.
Special recognition and trophies will be awarded to the first male and female Rappahannock County residents who will compete for the coveted Eva L. Smith Memorial Trophies and to the top twenty finishers overall, both male and female.
Trophies are hand made pottery of original design by Rappahannock County potter, Jeanne Drevas.
Pre-registration post marked no later than April 12 is S5. Post registration is S6 the day of the race from 89 a.m. The race begins at Flint Hill. Limited parking is available at Lakewood Stoves
