Tests for rabies run at the Health Department laboratories in Luray last week came back positive on a skunk that was shot after the animal attacked a herd of heifers at Patricia Saltonstall's Points of View Farm in Hint Hill.
Saltonstall first spotted the skunk early Tuesday morning as it was playing with cattle in field next to her house. A hired hand chased the skunk away, only to have it circle around a hill and head right back into the heifers. "The heifers chased it and then the skunk turned and ran the heifers.” she reported.
