Lysik and Estabrook spent 12 hours in court in addition to untold hours of preparation and the board expects the case—which was decided in its favor—to be appealed, she reported.
Few Comments
The supervisors made few comments in reference to other line items pointed out by the superintendent including:
—two new 64-passenger buses which will keep the fleet on a rotation cycle that meets the state's recommendation for a 12-year service limit,
—increases in insurance premiums as a result of an extensive review of the school’s portfolio by board members Nelson Lane and Eastham and their recommendations for broader coverage,
—a $1,695 reduction in instructional supplies,
—reductions over last year in allocations for bus repairs and parts in accordance with current expenditures,
—increase in the allocation for custodians to cover three summer workers (eight hours a day for eight weeks at $3.65 per hour) to replace employees formerly provided through CETA,
—$25,900 to replace two inoperable milk coolers at the elementary school, a slicing machine stolen last year from fhe high school and a copying machine for the high school, —$44,000 for roof repairs at both schools.
Estabrook noted that the proposed budget includes only two months rent for the bus shop and central office in Sperryville. a decrease based on plans to have a new combintion building ready by September. He said that Nelson Lane had been most helpful in determining the $90,000 estimate for the building which will have metal sides and a slab concrete floor.
