To the editor:
What right does Mr. Estabrook have in bringing judgement against Mr. Wingfield? How long has he been here? Eight or nine months? That’s barely enough time to know him as a person, let alone as a principal! The school will voice their opinion soon and I’d like to voice mine as an individual.
Mr. Wingfield is a credit to his profession. If you have doubts, why don’t you open your eyes and look at the system itself? The school may have some small problems but what school doesn’t? We haven’t had any catastrophes and we have no police roaming the halls for our safety. We have a wonderful atmosphere in which to learn and it works.
If you take Mr. Wingfield away, you take away the dreams of students striving to be like him. He serves as a role model to the students. He encourages us to study, to learn, and to make something of our lives. Our school is very peaceful compared to inter-city schools. Sure, you can say it's because of the country atmosphere and that we’re “good” kids. Well. I disagree and I’ll tell you why. Not all kids are as “good” as many believe. They must be molded and guided to make it to adulthood. Teachers, parents, counselors, and principals do much of this molding. If something wrong is done, you are reprimanded by the principal and given advice. Without this advice many would be on the wrong track in a few years. A principal that cares will give this advice and not turn away.
If Mr. Wingfield didn’t care he would have left years ago. He stays because he knows what the people want and he does what he can to help you personally. I’ve studied for tests with him, joked with him, talked, and gotten worthwhile advice. He has inspired me to become the A-B student I am. I had no plans for any future but npw I have college in my future.
If Mr. Estabrook really thought about what he is doing, maybe he could think about it some more. The mistake he is making is grave and regretfully, must be learned the hard way.
If Mr. Wingfield leaves we may lose some teachers. We have enough trouble finding a replacement for a business teacher. How long will it take to find replacements for others? Sure, bring in substitutes and maybe you
