Like the U. S. mail, Eva Dahlgren came through despite the weather to win a three race, old fashioned point-to-point series held March 20 and 27 and April 3 over local hunt country.
As the leading rider in the series, Dahlgren, who represented the Rappahannock Hunt, was awarded the Harry Ruhsam Challenge Plate after her first place finish over the Orange County Hunt’s four mile distance on April 3. Riders were free to take any route they wished from the starting point at a farm on the Zulla Road near Marshall to the finish on Route 703. Dahlgren mounted on Tee, made the trip in approximately 12 minutes. Also from Rappahannock, Jeff LeHew on Lucky and Bold was the winning gentleman rider. Bone-chilling wind and rain plagued the 12 foxhunters who braved the elements as they galloped across open fields, up steep hills and through woods.
