The 16th annual Oatlands Point-To-Point will be held on Sunday, April 18, at the historic Oatlands estate south of Leesburg, Va., with a seven-race card on tap headed by the four-mile William Corcoran Eustis Cup over timber.
Gates to Oatlands will open at noon, with the first race scheduled to go to the post at 2 p.m.
The 1982 edition of the Eustis Cup will again carry a $2000 purse and will be run over the special timber and double stone wall course that ranks this race as the best test in the Virginia point-topoint circuit for horses headed into the sanctioned steeplechase season. Post time for the Eustis Cup is 4:30 p.m.
Sharing top billing with the Eustis Cup at Oatlands is the First Colony Hurdle race and the Times-Mirror Cup over timber, both of them owner-rider races. Both are part of a> spring-long points competition among ownerriders for bragging rights in hurdle and timber racing, and each has played the role as the pivotal race in the series because Oatlands comes at the end of the point-to-point season in Virginia.
The First Colony will open the race card at 2 p.m., to be followed in half-hour intervals by the Strolling Square ladies timber race, the 2'A mile Mr. Stripper Memorial over hurdles, the Times-Mirror Cup, the twomile Col. Harry Ruhsam Memorial over hurdles, the Eustis Cup and the two-mile Farmers & Merchants Plate on the flat.
