No stranger to the sort of conflict and controversy that is inevitable in a closeknit yet ruggedly individualistic county, Mrs. Latham managed to avoid taking sides when reporting the news on divisive issues. She was proud of the fact that when it came to taking a position on the editorial page, the Rappahannock News, as well as she herself, owed no one any favors.
Managing to-keep a small weekly newspaper alive and well through four changes in ownership, four changes in format, and the assorted routine crises that face small business operators has been no easy task. For the past 25 years, the people of Rappahannock have relied on basically one person to ensure that they got their news right, on time, every week.
